Many hoped that they will go away in 2019, but bike shorts still made it to the trend list this year.
They were spotted in several Fashion Week shows across the world, such as Maryam Nassir Zadeh in New York, Stella McCartney and Toga in London, Chanel in Paris, Fendi and Roberto Cavalli in Milan.
We can assume it all started with Virgil Abloh SS18 collection, paying a tribute to Princess Diana, where Naomi Campbell’s look was constructed around a pair of bike shorts. Also, we can thank Kim Kardashian for rocking this kind of shorts which for sure helped them rise above other trends.
Creating an outfit based on bike shorts is no easy task. However, if we are to get inspired from runways, we will not limit to just black spandex shorts. Bike shorts in bold colours or floral prints could become your statement piece for the SS19. How would you style them? Heels and an elegant blazer or sneakers and a baggy hoodie?
Maybe this trend will also raise the desire for people to ride the bicycle more often that would make it a great trend, a must if you want. I know it is kind of utopic, but we can dream.
